GABA analogs

GABA analogs is a group of substances which chemically mimic or resemble the neurotransmitter Gamma-aminobutyric Acid (GABA). GABA is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter of the mammalian nervous system. It is important in regulating neuronal excitation, reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation.

GABA analogs can modulate the GABA systems in the brain through interactions with GABA transporters or enzymes that are involved in GABA production or degradation. These compounds have a variety of pharmacological properties, including anticonvulsant (pain-relieving), anxiolytic, and sedative effects. Some GABA analogues are used in medicine, while others were developed as designer drugs to be used for self-medication or recreational purposes.
