Novel hallucinogens
Novel hallucinogens refer to a group of psychoactive substances which have been developed recently or discovered in the past few years. They alter perception, cognition and mood. The substances are called “novel,” because they have little or no history of use by humans, are based on limited scientific research or are intended to mimic established hallucinogens, while exploiting legal loopholes and evading detection.
They are made by altering the chemical structure of hallucinogens such as LSD, Psilocybin or Mescaline, or by finding new compounds that have similar effects. These substances are often marketed to recreational users as “designer drugs”, “research chemicals” or “legal highs”.
